Players Honor Sandy Hook Victims at AAU Nationals
“You can tell the people really care about each other up there and it was just a really tragic thing that happened,” Connecticut Elite team members said, reminiscing about the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy back in December 2012.
The Connecticut Elite basketball program is from Newtown, Connecticut and most of the players knew all 26 victims that died on that tragic day.
Vigils and ceremonies were held in remembrance of the 20 elementary school aged children and 6 adult staff members after a college student opened fire in the elementary school.
Connecticut Elite felt they needed to show their respect somehow, so to honor the victims they added “Sandy Hook” to the back of their jerseys, right above their numbers.
Team members say it feels great to be able to come down to Orlando, FL and participate in the 2013 AAU 9th Grade Super Showcase and represent everybody in Connecticut and show that people do still care about the Sandy Hook victims.
